artjazzArt & Jazz for Jack and the Blues Well over 200 guests came to an event at the Westin Casuarina’s ballroom on Friday, with half the proceeds to benefit the Blue Iguanas. Originally conceived as a fundraiser for medical expenses for the cancer-stricken Jack Oplustil, the event was widened to embrace the Blues as tragically both Jack, and seven of our Blues passed away – albeit under very different circumstances. The local artists group “Native Sons” and local bands Devone Edie, Mainstream, & the Gary Ebanks Quartet, with DJ Andre Iton, were the main attractions. MC’d by Joel Francis, funds were raised from the entry tickets and a silent auction. Governor Stuart Jack joined the party and spoke to the happily boisterous crowd – among other things, about the impending record hatch of baby blue iguanas, and the need for protected land for them to be released into.
