“Too Blue to Lose”, originally intended as a 20-minute educational DVD about the Grand Cayman Blue Iguana, a collaborative project, of the Blue Iguana Recovery Program and Wild Wings Vision, was later extended to include a half-hour German language documentary on Blue Iguanas commissioned by the German television channel, VOX. The film, by producer Dorothea Schwab, captured unique, stunning footage of the Blue Iguanas mating, fighting and nesting and received top ratings from German viewers. With the addition of a comic voice that will be recognized by millions speaking the role of “King Blue”, the film’s principal character, Deutsche Bank (Cayman) Ltd, the initial sponsor of the project, has agreed to provide a grant of CI$80,000 to develop the film as an educational tool, which would be distributed to an international audience.

“After viewing some of the clips, we knew that we had to see the project completed,” Deutsche Bank’s Marketing Manager, Sophie Ebanks said. “We were proud to be a part of the original project in early 2004, and are confident that the stunning footage will help aid in education about our indigenous Blue Iguanas.”

Too Blue to Lose should become available for distribution to local schools in the Cayman Islands, and for sale to the public, in late 2005.

Dorothea Schwab of Wild Wings Vision continues to film throughout December to document the current release.
