Blue Iguana Recovery Program

Backup power supply installed

Today Corporate Electric Ltd. are very kindly installing the final components of a backup power supply to the BIRP shed at the captive facility, free of charge. Together with the solar system which has been pre-installed by Electratech, and which should be finalized this month, we will have secure power both for normal operations (rainwater pumping, and refrigeration), and the new security systems deemed necessary in the wake of last month’s criminal break-in and iguana slaughter.

The investigation into that crime is still very active and the Crime Stoppers $11,000 reward for information, still stands. While the investigation proceeds in the hands of the Royal Cayman Islands Police and the Department of Environment’s enforcement officers, our focus remains on what is shaping up to be the biggest Blue Iguana nesting season in the history of the Programme!
